What needed attention

Following an inspection at this Clonsilla home, the extension roof needed attention at the ridge caps, valley and adjoining roof junctions. The photographs show worn mortar around the ridge caps and leaves, moss and debris in the roof channels. These are important details for keeping rainwater out and allowing it to drain away. The scope covered repairs to the existing roof and its vulnerable junctions.

How we approached it

We inspected the ridge caps and removed loose, cracked and worn pointing before renewing the mortar and filling the joint cracks. Ridge caps cover the joint where the roof slopes meet; repointing renews the exposed mortar around them. We cleared debris from the valley, inspected the existing flashing and sealed the joints and seams with roofing sealant. After cleaning and preparing the critical roof junctions and vulnerable leak areas, we applied Mariseal Detail liquid waterproofing. We also fitted dry verge units along the roof edges: mechanically fixed covers that protect the exposed tile ends. To finish, we cleaned the work areas, cleared job-related waste from the gutters and removed the work debris from the site.

The finished work

The finished photographs show renewed mortar around the ridge caps, cleared and sealed roof channels, waterproofing at the treated junctions and a continuous line of dry verge covers along the extension roof edges. The work focused on repairing and protecting these details while retaining the existing roof covering. The before-and-after sequence makes it easy to see the changes at the ridge, channels and gable edges.
